We live in a time of polarization in both American society and in the Church. Unfortunately, some encourage believers to view matters of faith and disputes within the Church through the lens of politics. This often has a pernicious, distorting effect on both the practice of the Christian life and ecclesial communion.

In this program we will explore how the believing Catholic can discern the true path — find the pearl of great price, walk through the narrow gate (Matt. 13:46; 7:13), work to build the Kingdom in this life, and, in God's mercy, live in joyful presence of the Triune-God in the life to come.

Speaker:

John Breen
Georgia Reithal Professor of Law
Loyola University Chicago

As an undergraduate, Professor Breen studied the "Great Books" while majoring in Notre Dame's Program of Liberal Studies; he graduated with highest honors. He then attended Harvard Law School where he was a member of the Board of Student Advisors, teaching research and writing to first year law students. Following graduation from law school, Professor Breen clerked for Judge Boyce F. Martin, Jr., of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. At the completion of his clerkship he practiced law at Sidley & Austin in Chicago where he specialized in commercial litigation. Professor Breen was an associate visiting professor of law at the Detroit College of Law at Michigan State University before joining the Loyola faculty.
