First Friday Prayer Meeting
7:30am - 8:30am

For our July First Friday prayer meeting via Zoom on July 10th, we will reflect upon issues presented by the Kerner Report. Here are some basics about the Kerner Report

In July 1967 President Lyndon B. Johnson appointed Otto Kerner, Jr., Governor of Illinois, as the head of the National Advisory Commission on Civil Disorders (sometimes called the Kerner Commission). Kerner previously served as a Judge in the Circuit Court of Cook County and as the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois. In March 1968 the commission issued what became known as the Kerner Report. The report declared that America was becoming "two societies, one black and one white—separate and unequal." At the root of America's racial division, the report said, were bigotry and injustice caused by racism.

We will discuss two articles about that the 426 page Kerner Report:

Smithsonian
The New Yorker

We will read select portions of these two Articles and reflect upon some of the assertions made in the articles.

Our coffee chat will begin at 7:30am and our prayer session will start at 7:45am and conclude around 8:15/8:30am.

Hope you can join us.
