Virtual Meeting via Zoom

12:00 p.m. - 1:15 p.m. CST

Please mark your calendars for Christian Legal Society's July Loop Group meeting via Zoom! Speaker, Patrick Keenan-Devlin, will be presenting on Holistic Advocacy and Ethically Integrating Social Services.

Combining the strengths of social work and legal advocacy facilitates better short-term and long-term outcomes for clients, but cross-disciplinary collaboration also comes with inherent challenges and tensions. Participants will learn about national, state, and local models for integrating social work services; explore the ethical challenges when social workers and attorneys collaborate and how to best manage those conflicts; learn about a legal-social work model developed at the Moran Center for Youth Advocacy; and apply newly acquired knowledge by problem-solving hypotheticals.

Mr. Keenan-Devlin serves as the Executive Director of the James B. Moran Center for Youth Advocacy, a community-based, integrated legal and social work agency dedicated to the holistic representation of youth and their families. In addition to ensuring the effective implementation of the Moran Center’s strategic vision, Mr. Keenan-Devlin continues to represent youth in juvenile delinquency proceedings and serves as a nationally certified trainer in juvenile defense practices. Previously, Mr. Keenan-Devlin served as the Deputy Director/Staff Attorney – representing youth in juvenile delinquency and school law proceedings, as well as leading the agency's development efforts. Prior to law school, Mr. Keenan-Devlin worked as the Health Policy Advocate for the Shriver Center on Poverty Law and as the Legislative Director of Citizen Action/Illinois, the state's largest public interest organization. Mr. Keenan-Devlin graduated cum laude from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music and then received his law degree from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. Mr. Keenan-Devlin serves on the Boards of the Sheil Catholic Center at Northwestern University and Citizen Action/Illinois.
